Below some of the world’s most notorious killers who terrorized the world and baffled the police. These killers stand above the others for their cruelty, madness and above all, the insanity of their mind.
Still remains as one of the greatest mystery, even after so many investigations and suspects, The Zodiac’s identity remains unknown. Zodiac is a serial killer who is suspected of 7 assaults, though the numbers may rise to 30. A special trait of him was that he sent cryptographic and puzzling letters to both the police and the media, some consisting drawings, some consisted of his wishes. One letter in particular consisted a cipher which could lead to the identity of killer, but the cipher remains un-decoded. The Zodiac has since become a popular identity. He has since been depicted in various movies, plays, tv series, books and even in video games. The 2007 movie “Zodiac” was inspired from him featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr.
Ted Bundy was an American serial killer, rapist, and necrophiliac. Known for keeping the severed heads of his victims, it is speculated that he started killing at the age of 14. He is convicted of 30 homicides. But according to some experts, the number’s may rise to 100. His twisted mentality is evident from his quoting–
“You feel their last bit of breath leaving their body. You’re looking into their eyes. A person in that situation is God!”
He was first caught in 1975, but managed to escape. He was finally caught in 1978 and executed in electric chair in 1989,also sometimes known as “old spark” but not before helping police by giving them ideas of capturing the then on loose Gary Ridgway.
Known as the “Monster of the Andes”, Lopez, a Colombian serial killer, victim of child abuse, assault and violence in his childhood, was found guilty for murder of staggering 110 girls. He later confessed to the murder of 300 more. The nickname “Monster of The Andes” was given to him when he lead the police to the grave of 53 victims, all girls. He was sentenced to only 16 years of imprisonment, according to Ecuadorian law, in 1980. Though can you believe that he was released in 1994 from the psychiatric unit, two years earlier, for “good behavior”. His current whereabouts are unknown.
This person needs no introduction. Known throughout the world as one of the most notorious dictator, he was Germany’s leader from 1933 to 1945, during which time he led the world into the most devastating war in history.Although he was not a serial killer, his racist ideology led to the mass murder of 6 million Jewish, and a total of 11 million innocent people in the course of WW2. Starting with the attack on Poland in 1939, sparking the beginning of world war 2. Interestingly, he wanted to become a priest in his childhood, as he was saved by a priest from drowsing. But being a priest wasn’t enough for him, he wanted to be a god. There were 42 assassination attempts on him, but survived all of them, to commit suicide in the end with his wife.
Also known as “the vampire of Sacramento”, he was an American serial killer who killed 6 people in the span of one month. He was called so because he drank the blood of his victims and ate their body parts.A complete psychopath, who had the habbit of killing animals such as rabbit, birds, and even cow and drinking their blood. He was finally caught in 1979 after he murdered an entire household. When police searched his apartment, the walls, refrigerator and even the ceiling cover in blood. He was sentenced to death but he killed himself before the date of execution by stockpiling the medicines he was given.
Luis Garavito, having the highest number of victims in the history, is considered to be the worst serial killer in the history of mankind. Convicted for the torture and killing of mainly children and teenagers, he is convicted of 138 murders, but the numbers may rise to around 400. He was caught in 1999 and sentenced to 1,853 years by Colombian Court. However as he assisted the police to find the victim bodies, and the Colombian law limits imprisonment to 40 years, his sentence was reduced to only 22 years and is scheduled to be released in 2021.
Nicknamed as The Butcher of Rostov and The Rostov Killer, Andrei was a Russian serial killer who killed 52 women and children from 1980’s to 90’s. He assaulted and mutilated his victims. In the beginning he just stabbed or strangled the victims, but later this turned into desiccation, as he found pleasure in removing the body parts such as eyes from his victims body. He also enjoyed biting and eating their bodies, truly making him a human butcher. A father of two and a former military man, he terrorized Russia as The Red Ripper, before being captured in 1992. When he was he captured, there was foul odour comming from his body. It was later found that he had human flesh in his digestive tract. He was executed in 1994 on Valentine’s Day.
Gary Ridgway is convicted for the murder of 49 women, but admitted the number could rise to 90. He killed his victims by strangling them and then dumping their bodies in the green river. For which he was given the nickname the Green River Killer by the media. He was finally caught in 2001 after many years of terrorizing the women of Washington. After being caught, he submitted a plea bargain, in which he agreed to assist the police in finding the remaining dead bodies in exchange for changing the death penalty to life imprisonment. He is known as the Most Prolific Serial killer of America. Interestingly Ted Bundy, another serial killer had actually helped the police to catch Ridgway.
Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer. Also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, Dahmer is convicted of drugging, murdering and dismembering of atleast 17 men and boys. He preserved his victim’s body parts, mainly skull and would also collect photographs of the victims, at various murder stages, to relive the experience. He was caught when his 18th victim was able to escape and contact the police in 1991. When his appartment was searched, the police found 4 severed heads, 7 skulls and 2 human hearts. He was sentenced to 16 life imprisonment, however in 1994; he was killed by a fellow inmate. Dahmer is notorious even among serial killers.
Also known as The Whitechapel Murderer, this unknown identity terrorized London during 1880’s by committing gruesome murders of at least 11 people, majority of them were prostitutes. After killing the victims he removed their internal organs which led to the speculation that the killer has knowledge of surgical knowledge. The moniker-Jack the Ripper comes from the letters he sent to the media outlets and the police, with the letters consisting of clues to catch him, mocking the police. In the end he was never caught. He is considered to be the first serial killer to draw worldwide media attention.
