We never imagine our favorite cartoon characters to exist before our generation, but the truth is far from it. You might not realize it but some of your favorite cartoons might also be the one your parents grew up watching. Get ready to close in on the generation gap and learn a thing or two about the cartoons we all grew up watching.
The spinach eating sailor is 89 years old now. It started way back on 17th January, 1929.
Popeye never started out as a main protagonist. Instead he was a side character posing as a sailor when he made his debut. The story was always about his (now) girlfriend Olive and her (then) boyfriend and the misadventures they did together.
Olive only takes interest in Popeye later on. Olive was never into Popeye at first, they came together only when people started liking Popeye more… perhaps making her the very first gold digger to appear in a comic strip.
The early Popeye never got his powers from spinach but instead from a magical hen named Bernice who he rubbed on his hair! This seemed more legit to our older generation than eating spinach… think about that for a moment.
The character is out of copyright! That’s right anyone in the world can use Popeye as it’s outside copyright from 2009. Everyone except for the people in US, who still have to wait till 2025. This is due to the fact that Popeye’s author Elzie Crisler Segar work falls under “Work for Hire” rules as per U.S. copyright.
Donald Duck made his way to the silver screen and into our hearts on June 9, 1934.
Daisy wasn’t Donald’s first love!As unbelievable as it may sound, but Daisy as a character made way into Donald’s life after Donna Duck. Unlike Daisy, Donna wasn’t interested in Donald and would thwart his attempts to woo her.
Donna was more like Donald Duck both in terms of design and character. She later returned in Donald’s life as his neighbor as a Mexican, making Daisy jealous.

He was won an OSCAR for the anti-Nazi 1943 animated short called Der Feuhrer’s Face, originally titled as Donald Duck in NutziLand.
Donald Duck also had a twin sister named Dumbella. Also known as Thelma or Della. What happened to her is not quite clear. Though, according to Dutch cartoon purports, they explained her absence away by claiming that she has become an Astronaut!
Bugs Bunny is widely considered to come to life on July 27, 1940.
One of the few characters to occasionally lose a fight against his nemesis – Elmur Fudd. The most famous one in which happen was the 1957 short titled What’s Opera, Doc which parodied Wagner’s Opera.
Creators were worried they have made a bully! It was the major reason they decided that Bugs will only retaliate once provoked as they wanted him to be a nice person! The director confirmed this himself.
Bugs is the only character who has literally saved a life. This happened in 1961, a man named Blanc got in a serious car accident which left him comatose. Eventually, some doctor tried talking to the unresponsive patient by referring to him as Bugs Bunny to which Blanc responded “What’s up, Doc?”
